Podcast Episode: AI MADALSA with Gold Finches

Pip: Laura Cram — known here as MADALSA — paints gold finches, holds her original Folk guitar, and has now apparently recruited artificial intelligence to animate the whole thing.

Mara: That’s the territory today. We’re looking at what happens when a hand-painted bird and a musician meet a generative AI tool — and what that creative experiment actually produced.

Pip: Let’s start with the gold finch itself.

AI MADALSA with Gold Finches

Pip: The question here is what it looks like when a working musician and visual artist takes a first real swing at AI-generated video — not as a tech demo, but as something personal and creative.

Mara: The post sets it up plainly. In her own words: “My first attempt at using Meta AI proved fun as the gold finches I had painted for my website promo picture were chosen to fly around while I, styled by AI to be playing an appropriate guitar sequence.”

Pip: That’s the whole shape of it right there — the bird she painted for her own promotional image becomes the animated element in a video of herself performing. The source material is hers, with the aid of AI providing a mini guitar sequence to suit the video mood.

Mara: That detail matters. This isn’t a generated image of a stranger’s bird. The gold finch already existed as original artwork, already had a role in how she presents herself publicly. Meta AI was handed something with context and history, not a prompt from scratch.

Pip: Which makes the result feel less like outsourcing and more like collaboration — she brought the visual vocabulary, then AI supplied the motion and sample guitar music.

Mara: And the word she uses is “fun.” Not groundbreaking, not transformative — fun. That’s a meaningful choice. It keeps the stakes honest and the experiment human-scaled.

Pip: There’s something quietly interesting about an artist whose first AI foray is essentially: here is a bird I painted, now make it fly while I am made to look like playing the guitar. That’s a very specific and personal brief.

Mara: It also suggests a low-friction entry point. No elaborate prompting, no technical scaffolding described — just a creative asset she already owned, put into motion through a tool she was trying for the first time.

Pip: First attempt, personal materials, the word “fun.” That’s a useful benchmark for what an honest creative experiment with AI actually looks like at the starting line.

Mara: A painted bird, a guitar, and a first attempt — it’s a small experiment with a clear point of view.

This edited podcast-written script provided for you is meant to reflect the slight necessary changes needed to accurately represent AI MADALSA’s Gold Finches – ‘first automated audio podcast August 4th 2026’ on MADALSA’s Website.

Pip: The interesting question is what she hands the AI next time, with a sample of her own Celestial Folk music, for us perhaps?

Festival of India Ottawa 2016

Yes we will be there.

I am so delighted to have been asked to lead a MADHUVAN LIFESTYLE – Yoga, Meditation & Music Workshop at the festival this year on Aug.7th, 11:30 am – 12:30 pm at Jean Pigott Hall, Ottawa City Hall, Ottawa ON CANADA.  I hope to see you there too.  Google Map – Jean Pigott Hall

Attending the festival in 2014 and 2015 were highlights of these years for me.  The delightful ambiance there really appeals to me.

Here in this pic, we had just purchased a wonderful Indian outfit and bangles from one of the booths there for my daughter to wear the following day at the 2nd day of the Festival of India Ottawa in 2015.

One of my yoga students ‘Diya’ had invited me to come and watch her dancing … and it was so incredible!  I was totally mesmerized by the amount of effort that must have gone into preparing for this wonderful festival … all run by volunteers!

There is so much excitement and focus that I can’t wait to tell you more …

Meanwhile check out the info for this upcoming workshop:  https://madalsa.com/madhuvan-lifestyle-introductory-workshop/

The Sense of Expansion and Awareness

Each day an individual can also experience the sense of expansion and awareness that heightens his consciousness  (individual consciousness that is), by identifying with higher knowledge which leads the participant to experience ‘the bliss of the absolute’, and thus remain calm, or calmer even while witnessing the various happenings.

Regularly sitting in meditation, reading scriptures or books written by sages and saints help to direct the attention to the height of understanding, and then with practice one experiences bliss and the ultimate outcome of union with one’s ‘Higher Self.’

The practice of daily Yogic exercise releases the build up of stress and strengthens the body and immune system to be able to maintain a healthy body fit for the realization of something more vast than the normal waking consciousness …

In other words, one begins to identify with the process of higher thinking by repeating the thoughts of immortality and bliss, our true nature.

Part of our MADHUVAN LIFESTYLE routine is to read daily from – ‘Meet Your True Self Through Meditation’, as an effective way to learn a vocabulary and outlook on how to become aware of the witness within, and communicate on such a level to remain expansive in thought.

For further reading regarding this process of awareness, please refer to a wonderful introduction to meditation called – ‘Meet Your True Self through Meditation’http://swamishyam.com/books/english-books.htm

‘A view of the Self through the eyes of the enlightened being. Reading this book directly transforms one’s consciousness into the state of meditation and knowledge of the Self as the free Space. Written in an engaging and intimate style, the text includes anecdotes; references to the Bhagavad Gita; an in-depth description of the meaning of samadhi, or the superstate of consciousness; and the technique of meditation.’
